Bethel Christian Assembly was born out of a vision God planted in the heart of Pastor George P. Chacko. On April 11, 1993, at 10 a.m., Pastor Chacko, the founder and President of Bethel Christian Assembly, officially inaugurated the church at the conference room of Floral Park Motel and Conference Center, Floral Park, New York. At the service, attended by about 25 well wishers, Pastor Chacko spoke about his vision to work among non-Pentecostals and non-Christians. Another speaker, Pastor C.M. Samuel from Malabar, also encouraged the congregation to stand for the Lord and make a difference.

Since 1969, Pastor Chacko has received ministerial training from different places in Kerala. After completing theological studies at Bethel Bible College Punalur and Faith Theological Seminary at Manakala, he started pioneer ministries in different places in Kerala. While ministering at Kannur, he gained his bachelor's degree in economics. He came to New York in 1979 after marrying Raymol, and ministered at India Christian Assembly, New York, as one of the associate pastors until 1993.

When Bethel Christian Assembly started, the Lord opened five different charismatic groups to teach the word of God to them. Initially, Bible studies were held on Monday and Wednesday nights at non-Pentecostal homes. The subject was "How to prepare for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ." These classes were conducted for a year and as a result many people received Jesus as their savior. Miraculous healings took place, including an individual suffering from "Lupus" that was abandoned by Long Island Jewish hospital. People were delivered from evil spirits, and the Lord opened the homes of non-Pentecostals and non-Christians, allowing the Pastor and his wife to visit these homes almost daily to share the gospel.

The Lord also enabled them to bring together several broken families through continuous counseling, prayer and visits. Daily personal evangelism, prayer meetings and beginning a Sunday School on Saturday afternoons have been a tremendous blessing. Up to 30 children, all non-Pentecostals attended these Bible studies. By the mercy of God, a couple from non-Pentecostal background was the first to be baptized in the church. In the past 12 years, eighteen additional baptism services were held.

True to our vision and by God's grace, most of our members are from non-Pentecostal background, including four families from non-Christian heritage. Currently we have Sunday School, youth ministry, Bible studies, prayer walk, prayer tour and fasting prayers. Three years ago we initiated a program called "100 Days Prayer." Prayer tours take place once a month. That includes tract distribution. In 1991, the Lord used pastor to start the Malabar Revival Crusades and Bible Correspondence Course and with the help of the church conducted five major gospel crusade tours in Malabar, Ernakulam, and Kottayam until 2004. We distributed food for the poor in five colonies, including delivering food packages to 300 families as part of the crusade. The Lord saved and healed many through these crusades and open-air meetings. Several dozens of people also have been baptized during these meetings.

God is also enabling Bethel Christian Assembly to do charitable works. Currently, the church financially and spiritually supports 10 churches. The assembly also financially assisted in the construction of several church buildings for IPC and other Pentecostal denominations in such places as Porur Wynadu, Anappanthy Peratta and Poolakkutty. The church also is paying full tuition and mess fees for five poor Pentecostal students pursuing their nursing career. During the last few years our church also has conducted conventions, city-wide monthly meetings, and Pastors and Wives fellowship meetings.

Currently, the Lord has provided a magnificent place for us to worship, at 99 Campbell Ave., Williston Park. Along with the Psalmist, we can say this was "done by the Lord and it is marvelous in our eyes," so all glory belongs only to Him and no one else.
